Every community needs stories that help us see one another more clearly.
Overview of Project
Students in grades 6–12 who reside in Noblesville are invited to submit an original story that will be considered for adaptation into a published children's book for readers ages 5-10. Stories should reflect themes of belonging, inclusion, kindness, and respect for differences.
Participation is open to students in:
• Public schools
• Private schools
• Homeschool settings
Submission Deadline: June 1, 2026
The selected story will be adapted into a children’s book and published by NDC in partnership with KI Productions and Publishing.
The winning student author will receive a $250 award, along with publication credit and recognition at the community book launch.

Frequently Asked Questions
What grade should I select?
Use your grade for the 2025–2026 academic year.
Can I submit more than one story?
Students may submit one story only. We encourage you to submit your strongest and most complete work.
Can I work with a friend or submit a group story?
No. All submissions must be individual work created by a single student.
What happens if my story is selected?
The selected story will be adapted into a children's book for younger readers. It may be edited for clarity, structure, and age-appropriateness while preserving your message. The selected student author will receive publication credit, recognition at the book launch, and a $250 award.
How will stories be judged?
Stories will be reviewed anonymously by a community panel including NDC members, educators, local authors, and KI Productions & Publishing. Stories will be evaluated based on alignment with the theme, creativity, emotional impact, clarity, and adaptability for a young audience. Student identifying information is separated from submissions before the review process begins.
What if my story is outside the word count?
The word count range is 500–1,000 words. Slight variations may still be considered, but staying within the range is strongly encouraged.
